Remember when the internet didn't require you to press a button to tell it that you "liked" something? Back before the function became ubiquitous on social networking sites across the web, users would simply link back to a page or tell their friends about it. But not anymore. Now you've got to "like" something, or "share" it to one of your many other social networking sites for your friends to garner any interest. Well, Google's trying hard to jump on that same bandwagon with its release of the Google +1 button extension for Chrome.
We reported earlier this week that Google's already considering ranking search results based on how many users are actively "Plus One-ing" a link. Now it's for real with the official Chrome extension, with tacks on a little +1 button to any web page on the web. Even that Geocities page you forgot about ages ago.

The Google + button appears in the top right corner of your browser window.
Currently, there are only 14,536 users of the extension, which begs the question if whether or not web users are ready to add on another finger-stroke to their already impacted browsing experiences.
