We just recently reviewed the excellent 100 Cameras in 1 app, but while it may have 100 cameras...in one, 8-bit Pocket Camera still gives it a run for its money. Admittedly, this retro-inspired camera filter is only really useful for nostalgia trips, but sometimes we all need a quick 99 cent vacation back to a simpler time. If nothing else, this app forces us all to take a step back and appreciate everything the iPhone 4 camera offers.
Take a journey back to 1998 with 8-bit Pocket Camera [iTunes Link] to experience what it used to be like to combine a camera with your gaming system (let alone combining it with your telephone, video camera, web browser, CD player, weatherman, GPS, Frommer's Guide, Magic 8-Ball etc ad nauseam.) Experience the rich detail offered by cutting edge 200x200 visuals!
The original Game Boy Camera used to shoot at an even lower resolution of 128x112. These days we've got 5mp cameras with 5x digital zoom built directly into our iPhone 4s. The futuristic year-two-thousand world we're living in may not have delivered on the promises of jet packs and flying cars quite yet, but frankly iPhones are way better than jet packs anyway.
8-bit Pocket Camera is available now for 99 cents.
