The iOS 7 app invasion continues with a major new update to one of the most highly acclaimed Twitter clients -- but users of the existing iPhone version will need to shell out all over again to get the latest and greatest.
Tapbots released Tweetbot 3 for iPhone and iPod touch on Thursday, the latest version of its popular Twitter client rebuilt from the ground up for iOS 7, which is required to actually install the app.
Like many other apps recently reworked for iOS 7, Tweetbot 3 is actually an entirely new app requiring an all-new purchase from the App Store. To soften that blow, Tapbots has priced the app at only $2.99 for a limited time, a savings of $2 off the normal price of $4.99.
Tweetbot 3 is also only for the iPhone and iPod touch right now -- the developers have a new iPad version (and presumably a new Mac edition as well), so for the moment users will be stuck in two different worlds while using the apps on phone and tablet.
So what's new with Tweetbot 3? Feature-wise, not much, but everything looks and feels completely new. Tapbots has abandoned its longtime robot chrome UI in favor of Apple's more lean and clean approach with iOS 7, which the company says brings "a lot of charm and speed in the process."
Tweetbot 3 for iPhone and iPod touch is now available from the App Store, on sale for a limited time for only $2.99, and requires iOS 7 or later.
