If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em out! According to sources close to the deal, Twitter has reportedly acquired TweetDeck, which for those unfamiliar, is an app for organizing the display of tweets, for more than $40 million in a combination of cash and stock.
Granted the deal has yet to be announced, but papers finalizing the deal were said to be signed Monday.
Twitter reps weren't available for comment, but the PR account for Twitter tweeted, "For all those who might be curious, we continue to not comment on rumors." Betaworks was also not immediately available for comment, a key investor in TweetDeck.
As mentioned above, Twitter's history has been to either dismiss third-party apps or buy them out. Awhile ago, the company had bought Twitter iPhone app Tweetie, and also partnered with photo add-on TwitPic, in launching its new interface.
