Platformers are experiencing something of a renaissance on the iPhone this month. First we got the superlative League of Evil, followed by The Blocks Cometh [iTunes Link], and now Volcano Escape has hit the scene with an M.O. to change the face of the genre. The unique new platformer from Bravo Game Studios is releasing today across all iOS devices, and from the looks of it Volcano Escape is something like Doodle Jump meets Contra. Which is a very sexy thought.
The neat new innovation in Volcano Escape [iTunes Link] is that the enemies you shoot don't simply disappear. Instead, they turn into stone and become new platforms for you to use to aid in your escape. Otherwise, it seems like a mostly solid platformer with plenty of charm to spare.
The game will release with support for GameCenter functionality like leaderboads and achievements. There will also be five different characters that can be unlocked via in-app purchases. Be sure to check out the video below to see the game in action for yourself.
