We all know that you guys love your Macs -- after all, why else would you be visiting a website named MacLife.com? But did you know that attorneys and other legal professionals love them too?
9to5Mac is reporting that legal professionals here in the U.S. are turning to the Mac over Windows-based systems more and more, according to new data from Clio, a firm who provides web-based practice management for the legal community.
Out of 835 U.S.-based attorneys that Clio surveyed, the company discovered that 55 percent of them were already using Macs, with 18 percent of those relative newbies who have only used Apple computers less than a year. 41 percent have used Macs between one and three years, while the remainder were veterans of three years or more. Most telling, 19 percent of those currently using PCs say they are considering a switch to the Mac within the next year.
Reliability and security appears to be the main motivation for going Mac, with 46 percent of the legal professionals citing those concerns when they made the decision. 32 percent consider the ease of use with the Mac to be their primary motivation.
The good news for Apple is that the love doesn’t stop with the Mac -- the iPad is already making headway in the legal community with 26 percent of those surveyed already using everyone’s favorite tablet in their office. 42 percent of those who don’t are considering an iPad purchase in the next year.
It doesn’t stop there, either -- 50.3 percent of lawyers are currently using the iPhone, while only 27.3 use Blackberry, 9.8 percent use Android and 2.3 use Palm devices. A full 27 percent of those surveyed plan to switch handsets in the next year, and 65 percent of those users plan to go iPhone, with only 21 percent heading to Android and a mere seven percent for Blackberry.
