Well, it's not exactly the Half-Life 3 announcement that fans were looking for, but this announcement is still plenty huge. Valve has announced that they are currently working on the next game in the ultra-popular Counter-Strike series.
It's called Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and it will release on several different platforms: Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, PC, and (yay!) Mac. This is yet another important step in the budding relationship between Valve and Mac as a gaming platform. They've been highly supportive, and it looks as though that will continue for the foreseeable future.
Details on Global Offensive are still scarce, but we'll be learning more in the coming weeks as the game will be playable at both Eurogamer Expo 2011 and PAX Prime in Seattle. PAX will be taking place in late August, and Eurogamer Expo will be in late September.
The game is being developed by the team at Valve in conjunction with Seattle-based developer Hidden Path Entertainment, and is being planned as a 2012 release.
