We were very impressed by PopCap games huge $200,000 donation to Japan relief with their generous App Store sale earlier this month. However, (even though it's certainly not a competition) we were blown away when Valve announced today that they had raised $300,000 with their sale that began last Thursday. What's more, the sale isn't even over yet. The items will be available for charity until April 6. Let's hit half a million!
The sale in question involved little more than a few in-game avatar hats and some consumable noise makers. The jury is still out on whether this means Team Fortress 2 players are extremely generous or if they just like silly hats and noise makers. However, these items weren't exactly cheap, so we're going to guess it's the former. The hats came in three price ranges, $7, $20, and a whopping $100.
As mentioned, the sale is still running for another week until April 6, so if you're a TF2 player that has been looking for a chance to donate to Japan relief but just didn't know how, this is your opportunity. If you need more incentive to buy, the hat that costs $100 is also enormous (pictured right). That way everyone will be able to see what a good person you are from all the way across the map, and will decline to shoot you in-game. Everybody wins here. Go buy a hat.
