According to a press release sent to us by Valve, the company will be switching to the SILK voice codec for providing in-game chat and communication options to its customers. In keeping with its recent attitude towards the Mac gaming community, the upgraded service will be offered to Mac and PC gamers alike.
As anybody who has used Skype recently is probably aware, the service is generally very high quality. It's even become one of the go-to services for clans and guilds looking for an easy way to stay in touch during games. The other options being Ventrillo and Team Speak.
Valve has said that the service will allow both one-on-one chatting as well as much larger group chats, and will work both as a desktop communication system and while a player is in the game.
