Late Wednesday night, the long-awaited 1.4 version of NAVIGON's MobileNavigator for North America was released to the App Store, according to CNBC. The update is free for current users, and NAVIGON has also temporarily reduced the price from $89.99 to $59.99 for those still without NAVIGON. The updated version includes Google Local search, as well as thirteen new features and enhancements.
"This comprehensive update once again provides many sought-after features to our customers," said Gerhard Mayr, NAVIGON Vice President of Worldwide Mobile Phones & New Markets. "It shows that we are committed to providing our customers the best navigation experience available for the iPhone."
The list of the new features includes: Google Local Search, enhanced pedestrian mode, turn-by-turn route list which provides a detailed list of directions that automatically update during navigation; eliminating each maneuver during real time.
Audiobook mode drivers can also use more of their iPod while driving. While listening to audiobooks and navigation, playback is automatically paused and rewound for one second while directions are given, and then resumes playing once directions stop.
Additional features include coordinate input, emergency help, favorites are now displayed in map destinations, swipe screen integration allows users to browse traffic live messages, contacts are set as interim destinations, GPS display enhancements, 3D map zooming, country info, and faster start up.
The app does also run on first-generation iPhones or an iPod Touch. However, one does need accessories to run the app on those devices (i.e. TomTom's Car Kit).
