Before you head to your local Walmart to buy a new tech gadget, you might want to think twice after watching the embedded newscast -- at least where Apple’s iPad is concerned.
9to5Mac is reporting that a man in Atlanta, Georgia bought an iPad at his local Walmart store and now he’s being refused a refund. The reason? Apparently, the iPad in the box is a fake -- a store prop that doesn’t actually work.
“The fake looks just like an iPad with an outer shell identical to the real thing, but it’s hollow inside with a screenshot of the iPad home screen sitting under the fake glass display,” 9to5Mac noted. “The kind you’d normally find at a Walmart.”
According to the local news in Atlanta, the man is being denied a refund from Walmart, going so far as to point the finger at Apple. The local news, on the other hand, “speculates that somebody purchased an iPad, swapped it with the fake, and returned it” -- which should be easy enough to find out, if Apple can match the serial number on the box to an activated iPad.
Needless to say, the man feels cheated and plans to file a lawsuit against Walmart if they don’t cough up the refund. Check out the embedded newscast for all the details.
