On Monday, we reported that TechCrunch had revealed the secret behind Facebook’s missing iPad app -- it was hidden within the existing iPhone app. As impatient users rushed to tweak the app to try it out, Facebook decided to be party poopers and close the doors. But as always, jailbreak users have all the fun.
9to5Mac is reporting that there’s still a way to break into that magical kingdom of Facebook’s iPhone app on the iPad, but you’ll need a jailbroken device to do it. While we’re fairly certain that Facebook will unleash the real native iPad app to the App Store sooner than later now that their secret has been exposed by TechCrunch, here’s how to make the magic happen in the meantime.
“iOS jail breaker extraordinaire, Chpwn, has managed to create a tweak that can easily turn any jailbroken iPad user’s Facebook for iPhone application into the full-blown iPad version,” the website reports. “The tweak called FaceForward is dead simple: just install Facebook for iPhone on your jailbroken iPad, install FaceForward in Cydia, and run.”
The YouTube video below shows how it all works, and you can read more about FaceForward by hitting up the link. We’re guessing that Facebook isn’t too amused about their secret being public, so don’t be surprised if this method gets squashed soon as well -- but if there’s one thing we know about the jailbreak community after all these years, it’s that they’ll always find a way.
