The new, undisputed hotbed of Apple product leaks is Vietnam, where the website Tinhte.vn has once again scooped us all with an iPod touch complete with two-megapixel camera.
AppleInsider is reporting that an iPod touch with a two-megapixel camera has turned up in the hands of Vietnamese website Tinhte.vn, although it’s not immediately clear if the device is a scrapped prototype from last year or a pending new release.
Most everyone expected Apple to add a camera to the iPod touch last September, and indeed a teardown of the refreshed device showed a space for one. No one knows exactly why Apple apparently scrapped the camera at the last minute, although “technical issues” were cited by insider sources.
A sticker on the back of Tinhte’s iPod touch reveals that the camera, with a part number OV2665-6s, is manufactured by Omnivision, who also provides the 3.2 megapixel camera for the iPhone 3GS. However, the iPod touch in question features only a two-megapixel camera.
AppleInsider notes that the iPod touch “also sports 64GB of capacity, and a serial number identical to the September, 2009 model” -- which could point to the leak being simply a prototype of last year’s model rather than a glimpse of what may come with this year’s refresh.
Tinhte.vn has provided a gaggle of photos of the iPod touch as well as a hands-on video embedded below for your enjoyment.
