Adding to its growing collection of mobile emulations of its classic games, Sega has released Virtua Fighter 2 [iTunes link] in the App Store. This isn't the well-known arcade version, though. Rather than that gorgeous (by 1995 standards) 3D version, this is the 2D Sega Genesis version of that same game--we know, it's a little confusing.
The Virtua Fighter series is well-known for bringing 3D fighting games out of the arcade and onto the home console. However, there was also a 2D, 16-bit version created for the Sega Genesis, which should port over nicely to the iPhone and iPod touch.
This emulation of Virtua Fighter 2 features a trimmed down list of eight fighters and eight stages, as well as two-player competition via bluetooth connection. It's currently priced at $1.99.
