Apple may be showing Google Street View the door along with the rest of the search giant's mapping software with the release of iOS 6, but third-party developers are already using that loss for their own gain.
TUAW is reporting that Navigon AG has pushed out a new update of their turn-by-turn navigation apps for iOS on Tuesday and along with lower prices through July 16, the apps now incorporate a couple of welcome features.
Most notably is Google Street View; while we already have that today for free through the iOS 5 Maps app, the feature will be going away with iOS 6 this fall unless Google decides to release a dedicated Maps app of their own. That's because Apple has chosen to use their own mapping software from now on, and it currently doesn't include any kind of street-level imaging.
Navigon even does the Maps app one better, by displaying Street View imagery as you arrive at your destination, so you'll know it's the right place. While it may seem premature to buy Navigon for this feature today, the currently discounted price assures users they'll have access to Street View after upgrading to iOS 6 in a few months.
The other new feature is Navigon Cockpit, available as an in-app purchase for $3.99 during the sale (regular price $5.99). This feature displays "relevant driving data in real time on a cockpit-like screen," which sounds pretty neat to us.
Navigon USA is only $29.99 until July 16, down from the normal price of $49.99; regional versions are also available for only $19.99 during the promotional period.
