The WebKit blog is showing off its latest creation. CSS animation, which is supported by the iPhone's mobile Safari browser. The animation is just one of the enhancements proposed by open source web browser engine group. The Webkit project refers to these enhancements as"CSS Effects."
The Webkit project hopes to provide developers with the tools needed to create rich content using animations that can be called out in styles, and hopes to replace some JavaScript.
The feature is currently unique to WebKit, but you can view the leaves in action using your iPhone or iPod touch.
These features will eventually work their way into desktop Safari builds, and will probably end up being a CSS standard. All these steps into CSS Enhancements could provide a Flash work around for the iPhone.
For those without an iPhone, we made a quick little video of the leaves page.
