By all accounts, Ashton Kutcher did a fine job portraying late Apple CEO Steve Jobs in the new feature film jOBS, which had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday. The reviews are mixed -- with even Apple co-founder Steve "Woz" Wozniak claiming the movie leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to accuracy -- but Kutcher appears to be coming out mostly unscathed. Will you be catching the movie when it heads to theaters?
Mixed Reviews for Premiere of Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs Flick
9to5Mac has gathered some initial reviews following the Sundance Film Festival premiere of jOBS -- you know, the one starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs. While many of the early reviews claim the movie is entertaining, it also seems to play it pretty safe considering the subject matter's mantra to "Think Different." Don't expect a movie that gets too deep inside Jobs' mind -- we'll likely have to wait for the official Sony biopic penned by Aaron Sorkin for that. Instead, The Verge calls jOBS "a point-A-to-point-B story" that doesn't take too many risks but is still mostly competent filmmaking. We'll all get to find out for ourselves come April, when jOBS finally heads to theaters across the country.
Facebook May Owe You $10 Following Sponsored Stories Settlement
We're not big fans of class action lawsuits, but occasionally we're included in one that makes sense. According to Gizmodo, emails are floating around notifying Facebook users they may be part of a class action settlement involving the social network's use of your likeness in a Sponsored Story -- and just by taking a moment to complete the online form, you could receive up to $10 for your trouble. Unfortunately, if too many people claim theirs, the $20 million settlement won't be enough for everyone, in which case the dough will go to a non-profit and you'll get zip. So we won't post a link to claim form, but keep an eye on a spammy-looking email in your inbox -- that's all you need to claim yours.
Report: Staples Adding Apple Products, Starting with $50 Apple TV
The latest Apple TV for only $49.99? Yes, please! According to 9to5Mac, a tipster has sent in a webpage from Staples.com showing just such a deal, although attempting to actually purchase one results in an "out of stock" warning. And the ATV is not alone: The retailer's website also recommends a $24.99 Apple Lightning cable on the same page. So what's the deal? 9to5Mac seems confident that Staples is about to begin selling select Apple products to its mix, which will likely include the Apple TV, Earpods, adapters, keyboards and Smart Cases. No word on when this might actually begin, but we'd bet sooner rather than later...
Apple Adds Notes to Featured App Store Titles
MacRumors noted Friday that Apple has now started to include "App Store Notes" with Editor's Choice and App of the Week selections on iOS, much as the company has been doing from the desktop iTunes software. The notes offer a little more detail about a title beyond the normal description, and their appearance in the iOS App Store appears to be just another phase of Apple rolling them out across all of its curated sections of the marketplace.
Rumor: Apple May Release 128GB 4th-Gen iPad Soon
Tired of your 64GB iPad filling up with movies, music and apps? You may soon get some welcome relief. 9to5Mac reported Sunday that Apple may be preparing a new model of the current fourth-generation iPad that comes with 128GB of onboard storage -- double that of the current largest iPad. This is not a new model but rather a new SKU added to the existing product line, which will be offered in either black or white colors as well as Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + Cellular just like its less spacious siblings -- and apparently the 128GB model will not replace one of them, it's just a new addition to the mix. No word on how soon such an offering might arrive, though...
