While most of the country was focused on the Super Bowl this past weekend (the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, in case you weren’t paying attention), a couple of Apple-related developments went down involving both the Verizon iPhone 4 and the mobile iTunes Store.
AppleInsider has collected a pair of news stories from the weekend involving Apple. In addition to Genius recommendations being added to the mobile iTunes Store on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, the first Verizon iPhone 4 has arrived in one lucky customer’s hands.
On the heels of Apple’s changes to search on the iPad App Store last week, the company has pushed a new feature to the mobile iTunes Store app for all iOS devices, adding the Genius feature which has been available on the desktop iTunes (as well as the App Store) for some time.
“The Genius feature analyzes purchases made by users, and then recommends similar content that users may enjoy,” AppleInsider reminds us. “Genius can also be used to create generated playlists within iTunes.”
The Genius feature was first added to the iOS App Store in September 2009 with iOS 3.1. Since Apple’s iTunes Store and App Store apps are web-based, they can be updated on the fly without revisions to iOS itself.
The second bit of news relates to the new Verizon iPhone 4, which landed in the hands of one lucky customer on Saturday morning. YouTube user “billa9668” posted the video evidence as he picked up the box from his local UPS, while most early buyers have deliveries scheduled for Monday, February 7.
As you may recall, Verizon took advance preorders for the iPhone 4 on Thursday, February 3 for existing customers only and sold out before the end of the day. For everyone else, they’ll have the chance to preorder on February 9, with the device finally going on sale to the public the next day, on Thursday, February 10.
