In case you haven't heard, MySpace is back and they've got Justin Timberlake! No, don't check the calendar, it's not the first of April and this is no joke. The "new" MySpace is here, but it remains to be seen what that will mean for users.
TechCrunch posted a humorous look at the new MySpace, which launched this week with the help of singer/actor Justin Timberlake, who mostly seems to be haunting the remnants of this social ghost town in an effort to pimp a few more sales of his latest album.
After signing into the new MySpace using a Facebook account -- how's that for irony? -- the service now asks users to "select which options you identify with most," ranging from Musician to Filmmaker, Entertainer to Comedian. Those who have kept their MySpace account around can also upgrade it to the new version, which mostly reboots you -- a good way to purge and start over, we'd say.
Justin Timberlake advertising aside, the new MySpace makes it rather tricky to add friends. Despite the Facebook login option, the social network requires you to use archaic email to invite friends to the party. Ouch.
From the looks of it, TechCrunch spent a little more time than we did poking around, but ultimately left with no plans to return in the near future. If you like playing the long odds against Facebook, sign into the new MySpace and give it a shot yourself…
