Now that USB 3.0 has finally arrived on the latest MacBook models, drive manufacturers are moving quickly to make sure their products work equally well with the Mac as they do with PCs, including WD's newest line of portable hard drives.
Western Digital has announced the latest version of its My Passport line of portable hard drives for the Mac and PC dubbed My Passport Edge.
Both My Passport Edge for PC and My Passport Edge for Mac feature 500GB of storage with a USB 3.0 interface for fast read/write speeds and a sleek, ultra-slim design that makes transporting them easy and convenient.
My Passport Edge for Mac complements Apple's popular MacBook computers, with full Time Machine compatibility right out of the box. Of course, users can always choose to buy the PC-specific model which includes WD SmartWare, but the drive will require reformatting first.
“WD's new My Passport Edge portable drives for Mac and PC offer mobile users a safe, compact, attractive way to conveniently work or play anywhere life or business may take them,” said Jim Welsh, executive vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups.
"We know that people who bring personal and business content along with them on their travels are concerned with portability and with maintaining privacy while also protecting their data. We design all My Passport products with a small footprint and with security and protection in mind.”
My Passport Edge for PC retails for $109.99, while My Passport Edge for Mac adds a $10 premium to the price, and both drives come with a three-year limited warranty, available now from the WD store or at select retailers.
