Wooden Skins for MacBooks Available
An American company working with international designers hopes that you'll want to spruce up your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air with a touch of wood.
Broomfield, Colorado-based Karvt LLC is accepting preorders for its wooden skins, scheduled to ship May 1.
Karvt lists two kinds of skins on its site.
Its Originals series of skins have an area cut out to showcase the Apple logo. They are available in natural or stained varieties of bamboo, cherry, pine and walnut. Maple is also available, but only in its natural color. Those skins are priced at $35.
(Spruce is not available, but we couldn't resist using it in the first paragraph. Woodn't you?)
Its Artists Series features intricate designs created by Karvt's featured artists, priced at $50. Though the work of only two artist appears in their store, four artists are listed as designers on the Karvt artists page.
A note on the web site says preorders receive 10 percent off the list price by using the code PREORDER in checkout.
Karvt says its skins are "personally hand-crafted" and made of "100 percent real authentic wood." The skin sticks to the MacBook with the help of a "professional grade 3M backing adhesive."
The company says its wood backings have an advantage over vinyl because any air that gets trapped between the skin and the computer won't show up as a bubble.
Though they have no iPad skins listed yet, we think it's a good bet they have some in the works: The title of their Home page is "KARVT: Limited Wooden Skins for MacBook and iPad."
