Following up the MacBook Air refresh, senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller leapt straight into the MacBook Pro line, including a new “next generation” model that mostly matches the rumors we’ve been hearing lately.
Apple has just announced a refresh of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro on the heels of similarly updated MacBook Air models. The announcement by senior VP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller was part of the company’s WWDC 2012 keynote address today in San Francisco.
Like their thinner siblings, the refreshed 2012 MacBook Pros are also powered by third-generation Ivy Bridge processors running up to 2.7GHz quad-core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz, but introduce a new generation Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics chip. USB 3.0 is also on board for the refresh.
The refreshed models retain the traditional look and feel of the MacBook Pro line, including the SuperDrive optical disc slot which has gone missing in the new “MacBook Pro with Retina Display” (see separate post for details).
The updated 13-inch MacBook Pro runs $1199 or $1499, while the 15-inch model starts at $1799 and tops out a $2199, both available today.
