There's little doubt that smartphones and tablets are changing the way we consume content once intended for the television screen, and new apps like Yahoo Screen aim to update that experience for the 21st century.
Yahoo! announced Monday a new app called Yahoo! Screen for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad which the company hopes will recreate the experience of turning on the television and channel surfing.
Billed as "a simple, intuitive experience that turns your finger into a remote control," Yahoo! Screen allows iOS users to swipe their way through various channels of content from Yahoo and its partners.
In addition to browsing through trending clips, Yahoo! Screen users can also search for shows, then swipe left or right to move between episodes or swipe up or down to "flip" through channels.
To launch Yahoo! Screen, the web portal has inked a new deal with Viacom for Comedy Central clips from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report and other popular shows, along with an exclusive digital clip archive of Saturday Night Live.
Yahoo! Screen is a free, universal app for the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and requires iOS 6.0 or later.
