Remember when we told you about augmented reality possibly coming to
iPhone with the next release of the firmware? Well, Yelp! has taken
matters into their own hands by putting an augmented reality "Easter Egg"
in their latest update.
To enable the augmented reality version of Yelp!, head to the App Store and download the latest version of the app [iTunes link]. Then open the app, shake three times while on the nearby tab and you'll get a blue dialog that lets you know a feature called "Monocle" has been activated. By tapping the "Monocle" button in the top-right of the app screen, you'll enter a new mode where you can pan the camera around in a real space to see virtual restaurant/shop listings overlayed on the camera.
We're not quite sure if this is actually allowed in the App Store, so we'll see how long it takes before Apple pulls the application. If you want this augmented reality application, get it while you can. Mashable shot the video below demoing the Monocle feature.
