You Are Smug and a Control Freak, iTunes Passes RealPlayer, Amazon Buys Audible
Posted 01/31/2008 at 12:35:42pm | by Mac|Life Staff

You smug control freak, you: Mindset Media has done "research" that says that Mac people are smug arrogant control freaks.

iTunes passes RealPlayer: A recent report says that more users are choosing iTunes over RealPlayer for streaming Web media. In related news, people still use RealPlayer. (Was that comment too smug?)

Apple: Double-digit marketshare?: Analysts at Gartner think that Apple's marketshare could hit 12 percent by 2011.

MacBook Air hits shelves: Apple says that the MacBook Air is now shipping. No word on whether preorder customers will get their new Air in a manila envelope covered with first-class stamps.

Apple TV delayed: As you probably heard, Apple TV Take 2 needs more time before Apple releases it.

Amazon buys Audible: Amazon bought audio book reseller Audible for $300 million. Amazon says it will continue to honor Audible's partnership agreement, which lasts until 2010. Beyond 2010? That probably depends on the evolution of the Kindle.

MythBuster likes the iPhone: The Apple reference in this article is small, but Jamie Hyneman of the TV show MythBusters mentions the iPhone in an article for Popular Mechanics, calling it "smart techonology."

avatarMore assured of our superiority

I like the quote from the adage article, "[mac users] are more assured of their superiority". Thats not smug, we just know we're better. Whereas PC users are "realists who are emotionally steady and work well with what they're given". Thats really a nice way of saying they have resided to windows sucking and will just 'live with it'.

avatarWho, me?

Funny, buy I'm pretty much the polar opposite of the Mac user they describe…and I'm looking more and more like John Hodgeman every day.

avatarConfidence not arrogance.

I've gone from using Windows to Linux and now OS X. I've found Mac users are more confident in their purchase decisions as well in the products made by Apple. I don't believe it's arrogance to be happy with your purchase and have several security firms prove time and time again how more secure OS X is compared to Windows. Using OS X is far simpler than using Linux or even Windows. The company works with both closed source and open source developers so their isn't a biased view. When watching Apple's Mac vs PC commercials they do point out a lot of accurate information for consumers who have not thoroughly compared both OS or the companies. Walking into an Apple store is a delight compared to feeling left behind when walking through a store that sells systems running Windows. There's no pressure in an Apple store either which I can't say the same for other places selling computers that run Windows. Mac users are confident, satisfied, relaxed and knowledgeable.

avatarPay as you go

As an arrogant Mac user I say who cares what some schmuck thinks about me (at least I pay for my media)?
