Podcast #20: What's Wrong with the New iMacs and iApps?
As sexy as the new iMacs sound (and look) in Apple's new ads and when Steve Jobs announced them last week, Roman has a few beefs, starting with the display. Join us for a frank discussion of our first impressions of the updated iMacs, iLife '08, and iWork '08.

Also this is the same Baxter corp that was a U.S. based pharmaceutical company that just weeks ago was involved in a scandal involving vaccines tainted with deadly avian flu virus has been chosen to head up efforts to produce a vaccine for the Mexican swine flu that has seemingly migrated into the U.S. and Europe.

Its nice but not much informative, i love working in imac, its easier to learn and support...I think this iMac is going to be a huge seller this year. This have been shown to have much lower requirements for support, more resistance to virii, less user time to do tasks, etc.

Guys,
I have found that iPhoto Library Manager from Brian Webster has resolved the problems of large library management, multiple flash card storage issues, cataloging mentioned in your 020 edition! I now have multiple libraries based upon my own cataloging desires, and it ROCKS! I start iPhoto Library Manager prior to identifying the proper library for iPhoto to open, and I'm off and running!Mike

iMovie '08 is a total piece of crap. I got involved with Macs because I learned on iMovie '02 that you could actually make cool movies. I've bought three macs since then and currently have a MacBook Pro and a MacPro and use all of iLife. Forget the rest of iLife 08. It's ok...but iMovie '08 is nearly worthless. I have tried to use it to make a small movie on three occasions and it's missing so many features I love to use that I am disgusted. Oh, and come on, that story about the engineer just deciding to reimagine this program from the ground up on his own is pure corporate marketing legend. No freakin' way. We are supposed to believe that he simply ignored tasks he was assigned to complete and remade iMovie without any help or approval to destroy my favorite Apple app? iMovie '08 is as bad as the Tim Burton Planet of the Apes. It's a poor and meaningless imitator...other than the color correction tool. Why they didn't just add that to iMovie HD is likely greed. To force us all to buy Final Cut. Two months ago in MacLife magazine you mentioned in a video editing article that iMove HD had virtually no learning curve. How much freakin' easier did they need to make this app? Actually, they made it more difficult to figure out and once you figure out it can't be used to do cool editing or even export to a DVD you just get pissed off. Remember the hype on Apple's site when someone created a full commercial release on iMovie? That was considered a success story. If someone made a quality commercial release now it would be a miracle. I repeat, this new version is crap and for the first time in my life I am furious at Steve Jobs and Apple.

I was listening to the podcast and I had a thought about a way to possibly remove ink marks. Try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I've found them to be quite useful and it might do the trick. They aren't expensive and are easy to find so you won't be out much if it doesn't work.

I had a feeling (and was hoping) that folks would try the upload feature in my Web Gallery. So imagine my delight today when I checked on my gallery. Too funny. Thanks! - Roman

"Skimming" is cool, but the web gallery had pretty slow performance for me. I use Safari 2.0.4 on a 1.25 Ghz G4 with the latest Tiger. I have a broadband connection, so there seems to be a system requirements threshold for this to work smoothly. Even if people creating the web galleries have new iMacs, presumably most of their friends and family (those viewing and contributing from different computers) don't. Hope others aren't snubbed by this lag.

This Podcast is quite unprofessional. It sounded to me like a bunch of sorority and fraternity kids ranting after a few bong hits. If I counted the times they said "like" I'm sure it would approach 100. Am I supposed to think these are experts?
