Continuity 2: The Continuation starts with a simple premise: what if platforming levels were composed of sliding block puzzles?
It's a simple concept, but manages to flip the entire genre on its head. In order to navigate the terrain you must re-position a series of tiles, each containing a fraction of the stage within. Things get infinitely more complex when you're given the ability to manipulate gravity by tilting the device. Eventually you can even rearrange the circuitry of switches to influence what doors they'll open and close. You constantly have to reconstruct each level, and plot a course through the ever-changing topsy-turvy environments -- which can be a Herculean effort in its later stages.
The hook's great enough that the game can stand on its banal presentation. The mostly monochromatic environments and main character who looks like the symbol for a men's restroom may not be flashy, but they get the job done.
Additionally, each level contains an optional goal of coin-collecting as well as timed challenges. These add some longevity for hardcore players, though there's sadly no leaderboards to compare your best times.
Continuity 2 is a neat twist on puzzle platformers, and its malleable levels will test your spacial reasoning mettle. Its minimalist styling won't be for everyone, and the game's humor begins and ends with its title, but its core mechanic is so engrossing that it doesn't need any extra bells and whistles to stand as a one of the most inventive puzzlers on the App Store.
The bottom line. Continuity 2 is a fantastic puzzle/platformer with neat mechanic that's more than just a gimmick. The presentation may be too simple for some, but you'll likely be having too much fun to care.
