The Guardian Eyewitness is a very simple app, delivering one photograph a day from the popular UK newspaper, but the powerful images depicted in the app make it a showcase for the richness and clarity of the iPad's 9.7-inch display.

Don't worry -- you can view each photo without the overlays.
Each day brings a new image from the Guardian, and the subjects vary widely, from politics and world news to art and sports. One day might bring you a harrowing image of a woman being rescued from raging flood waters in Guatemala, while another could deliver an overhead shot of several hundred people dressed like the iconic Where's Waldo protagonist. Whatever the subject, you can be sure the image is worth viewing, regardless of whether it broadens your worldview or simply brings a smile to your face.

Each image comes with a tip for photographers.
The app offers up the last 100 daily images, and in addition to a caption for each, you can also view a pro tip that offers clues as to how the photographer snapped such a shot. Photos can be marked as favorites and shared via e-mail, Twitter, or Facebook, but you may feel most inclined to load The Guardian Eyewitness when friends and family are near, as to share the wonder of some of these shots in person.
The powerful images depicted in the Guardian Eyewitness app make it a showcase for the richness and clarity of the iPad's 9.7-inch display.
