List Master Review

For as long as the iPhone has been in existence, its out-of-the-box list-making capabilities have been subpar at best. Apple’s Notes app doesn’t quite do the trick, Mail’s To Do folder is just plain irritating, and even iOS 5‘s Reminders -- the best effort so far -- falls a little short. But if you’re looking for customization and complete control, put this on your to-do list: buy List Master from the App Store.
Even if you’re like us and want nothing to do with the idea of neat, organized rows of tasks and items, List Master might just soften your stance. Almost immediately, we were immersed in the boundless options within each list. Like a stripped-down version of Numbers, everything in List Master can be customized to fit your specific needs; monetary lists, for example, can be labeled with a green folder and set to instantly tally dollar amounts as they are inputted.

Lists can be as simple as this week’s groceries, but the real value of List Master is in its powerful customization tools. Items can be color-coded and sorted, and lists can have multiple rows of varying lengths -- features that may seem superfluous but are quite useful when planning for a party (guests, food, decorations, etc.) or organizing a week of deadlines. Plus, other useful options include password protection, email formatting, custom font sizes, linking, copying, and online syncing. Navigation could be a little easier (and a spell check function would be nice), but we figured out most options without too much fretting.
The bottom line. List Master doesn’t promise to get your life in order, but its robust and fantastic list-making tools will at least give you a good start. And if you’re already a fan of OneNote or Evernote, List Master might just convert you to the way of organized lists.
