Memorable Beers Review
When I was a young man, I stumbled upon a Ben Franklin quote that read, “Beer is proof that God exists and wants us to be happy.” I’m no longer a young man and I’ve since been told (by people much smarter than me) that Franklin probably never said that, but I adore the sentiment and the quote still hangs above my desk.
See, I love beer -- not in a frat-boy-down-as-many-Budweisers-as-I-can kinda way, but in a fashion that generally reflects a profound appreciation for the taste of a quality brew. And that’s why I absolutely love the Memorable Beers app for iPhone and iPod touch. (It runs on the iPad too of course but not natively.)

At a time when specialty pubs and beer stores are popping up everywhere, opportunities for experimenting with new and unfamiliar beers are at an all-time high, and Memorable Beers will help you keep track of those little-known-but-tasty gems so that you can remember what to buy two months from now (or tomorrow morning).
The app is straightforward, perfectly intuitive and laden with user-friendly classification features that make keeping track of your favorite beers easy. When you first open Memorable Beers you have two simple options: “Add a Beer” and “My Beers,” which shows brews that you’ve previously tasted and recorded.
In the Add a Beer file, you’ll tap Add Beer Name, which brings you to another page where you can note the beer name, style, brewery, and country of origin. Better still, each of those tabs has options that make completing the record a real breeze -- in the Style section, for example, simply choose between everything from a Bock to a Dunkelweizen or a Lambic.
Familiar sharing options for email, Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook accompany the app, and the Facebook option even asks if you’d like to share just the beer’s name and photo or the beer’s name, photo, and your notes about your drinking experience. Another of the savvy options allows users to record a voice memo in addition to, or instead of, typing a note (in case your motor skills aren’t 100 percent after all that tasting). You can also edit previously recorded beers, so if you’re in a rush, note the basics and fill in the blanks later.
Memorable Beers is indeed a gift from above -- it’d make an inventor like Ben Franklin proud, regardless of whether or not he was a fan of hoppy beverages.
The bottom line. A phenomenal little tool for anyone who likes to experiment with beers beyond the status quo.
iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 4.0 or later
Easy-to-use, smart interface makes keeping track of your favorite frosty beverages a snap.
The developers should consider an educational component of the app wherein one might, for example, tap “Lambic” to learn more about a given style of beer as he or she tastes and records it.
