See what's coming or even search for DVDs.
Movies aptly shows current and upcoming theatrical releases. It automatically reads you location—or manually entered ZIP code—to show relevant, local results. And items are salted with relevant details; most current releases include trailers, nearly every listing shows a poster, and Movies slurps in reviews, synopses, and more.
While the app hits all of our basic needs, it has several areas that could be improved. Its list of theatres comprehensively includes local art-houses and museums, but Movies rarely listed showtimes at those small outlets. Even after navigating to a specific showtime, the ticket purchase link sends you to a Safari page where you’ll have to pick the day and time again. And while the navigation within the program works well, once you’re bumped to Safari or a theatre map, you have to relaunch Movies to return.
Movies covers everything from old DVDs to new films. It served our needs most of the time, but we wanted better coverage of small theatres.
