It's safe to say that just about everyone has fantasized about stepping on the gas to lead the cops on a 100 mile police chase, and Hot Pursuit offers an extremely fun adaptation of that fantasy.

Racing games have turned into one of the premier genres when it comes to quality gaming on the iPhone. Nobody saw it coming before games like Real Racing and Asphalt 5 paved the way, but the level of quality has been amazing. That means Hot Pursuit has a ton of stiff competition to be worthy of your dollars. Thankfully, it's good enough to stack up against the best the iPhone has to offer in the racing genre.

The major plus is that the game is designed to run even on older iOS devices, but not without taking a hit. Older devices like the iPhone 3G run into frequent hiccups during races, but it's worth it for iPhone owners feeling passed over by the newest crop of games only playable on iPhone 4 and 3GS (and the speedier third- and fourth-gen iPod touch models).

The controls are the star of the show though. They're absolutely flawless and are right at the top of the genre. Complex maneuvers like drifting and 180-degree hairpin turns are accomplished with ease using the great turn and tilt controls.

The bottom line. NFS straddles the line between high-end modern iOS racers and budget racing games. The end result is a game that neither works as an impressive high-end game or a fully functional low-end game. The pitch-perfect controls make this an easy-to-control, exciting racing experience.
