The perfect quality for an iPhone or iPod accessory, in our opinion, is if you can use it with not only more than one current device, but also devices of the future. I've had this Nest stand since shortly after the iPad's launch in 2010, and it's been a great little companion for every tablet I've had since. (Only when putting together our list of 20 iPhone and iPad Accessories Under $20 did I realize we'd never reviewed it formally -- sorry, Bluelounge!)
The Nest is a simple-looking plastic wedge, with a small shelf that pulls out from the thin end, for standing the iPad up more vertically, and a rubber edge all around the top, if you want your iPad to lie flatter and tilt toward you for typing. I've used mine mainly for watching videos, from a nightstand or coffee table as well as right on a mattress, and it's compact enough that I've used it on an airplane tray table too.
The rubber feet keep it really still on tables of all kinds. And the slide-out tray is sturdy too (even after three years of use!), but while holding my first-gen iPad, it does very gradually slide out a little past where you put it, just from the weight. That changes the iPad's Netflix-viewing angle a bit, but not enough to annoy me. (Rule 1: Don't annoy me.)
So it's great as a stand, and the little "nest" area on top can be a place to drop your keys or other similarly sized doodads. In case you want to keep a handful of LEGOs next to the bed or something. I don't judge.
The bottom line. I've used this thing daily for three years now, I still love it, and it cost me $15. I'd say that's pretty good, wouldn't you?
Pretty much any tablet or smartphone
Works as a stand for any iPad, with a little area to stash loose objects. Lots of colors. Cheap. Easy to transport. Fairly future proof.
The pull-out shelf doesn't stay exactly where we put it when using it with our first-gen iPad.
