The iPhone version of Netflix came a lot later than the iPad version that was available at that device’s launch in April, but it’s equally welcome. The free app is now Universal, so you only have to download it once. A Netflix account is required; the cheapest is the one-DVD-at-a-time plan for $8.99/month. But that includes unlimited Instant Watch streaming to your computer’s web browser, a variety of TV-attached devices, and this app.
It controls just like your iPhone's native video player.
The iPhone version can suggest Instant Watch titles based on your tastes, and it also lets you manage your Instant Watch queue (but not your disc queue). Tapping around the iPhone’s screen is a little more unwieldy than using the Netflix.com site on your computer, but it actually works a little better than the iPad app’s small and tricky-to-tap buttons because it was designed for the iPhone’s size.
Loading takes a while over the 3G network.
Selections played flawlessly over Wi-Fi and incredibly well over 3G after some hefty loading time, but your network’s performance may vary. We did suffer occasional crashes, but nothing that got too frustrating.
Definitely worth the wait! It’s even worth starting a free Netflix trial if you’re not a customer already.
