You can rank with Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic.
Originally named BoxOffice, Now Playing navigates the web of movie listings from your iPhone. The app hits all of the critical basics, listing theatres in proximity to your location; and movies by release date, rating, or title. The clean interface includes links to trailers and reviews. Even small theatres typically include full showtimes.
Now Playing doesn’t quite win all of our thumbs, however. We could buy tickets from some theaters but not others. And when purchasing, it just kicked us to a Safari Fandango page. (At least it copied over our selected showtime.) And once you initiate a ticket purchase or look up a theater map, you have to relaunch the app to return.
The basics, including art-house theatres are covered, but Now Playing still leaves room for a sequel.
