The information panel at the bottom gives you distance traveled, time, average speed, latitude/longitude, and altitude.
Want your iPhone to remember where you’ve been? If so, you must not be as paranoid as we are. But if you’re not worried the government can use this data against you, you might want to try Path Tracker, which lets you record where you’ve been on a Google map. Our biggest problem with the app, however, was that the screen must remain active while tracking is in progress, so the more you use it to track your movement, the bigger hit your charge-life takes. The app also crashed quite a bit—very uncool.
If you really want to retrace your steps, bread crumbs would work better.

Tracks where you’ve walked using cell triangulation or 3G.

Zooming/panning is kludgy. Doesn’t work well with original iPhone or iPod touch. Screen must remain on to continue tracking. Frequent crashes.
