Star Walk

One of the coolest iPhone apps around is even better on iPad, as Star Walk offers an info-rich look at the night sky, with detailed descriptions of stars, planets, galaxies, constellations, and more.

Simply move the iPad and you'll see your current view of the night sky.
Star Walk finds your current location over Wi-Fi or 3G and uses the compass to determine which direction you're facing, allowing it to display the visible stars and features as you walk around. As suitably atmospheric music plays in the background, you can tap the screen to manually control the view, as well as gain access to positioning info and other details about planets and most major stars.

Track lunar cycles and sunrises/sunsets with the Sky Live screen.
The app also includes a Sky Live feature, which displays the current sunrise and sunset times, and lets you look months into the future to find out when the next Full Moon will take place. We'd love to see some in-app videos or 3D models in future updates, but for now, we have the Picture of the Day, which offers up stunning space photography that can be saved or shared via e-mail, Twitter, or Facebook.
Star Walk makes fantastic use of the iPad's features, and at just $4.99, it's a fantastic pick for kids, adults, students, and pretty much anyone with a passing interest in astronomy.
