Shareholders' Case Dismissed, Final Cut Express 4 Released, and More
Posted 11/15/2007 at 12:48:02pm | by Mac|Life Staff

Case Dismissed: You know how Apple gets sued every couple days, but it seems we hardly ever hear about the outcomes of these suits? Well, a lawsuit filed by the company's shareholders regarding the backdated stock options given to Steve Jobs has been dismissed. So now you know.

Updates Galore! Tons of software updates are available, so go to Apple Menu > Software Update to see what needs updatin' on your Mac. Apple has released an update for Tiger (Mac OS 10.4.11, which also includes Safari 3), a security update for Panther, updated versions of Pro Applications, and a more stable iPhoto, version 7.1.1.

Final Cut Price Cut: Final Cut Express 4 is out, and it's only $199. This is a pretty significant drop -- the last version was $299. Final Cut Express 4 can handle DV, HDV, and AVCHD video and even import iMovie 08 projects. If you're upgrading from a previous version of Final Cut Express, it's only $99, pretty much a no-brainer.

In Other Software News: Are you wondering how iWork '08 stacks up to Office 2008 for Mac, which should be out in January? AppleInsider's Road to Mac Office 2008 series includes comparisons of Excel 08 versus Numbers 1.0, and Word 08 versus Pages 3.0.

Warner Music Changes Its Tune: The CEO of Warner Music, Edgar Bronfman, told the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress that the music industry should take some of the blame for P2P sharing because they "inadvertently went to war with consumers." He also said they could learn a lot from Apple and its iTunes Store. This is somewhat of a turnaround, as a while back Warner Music was considering going to a month-to-month distribution contract with iTunes. We hope other record company execs see the light as well.

Finally: Here's a great Mac FAQ by Walt Mossberg, perfect to pass along to anyone you know who's planning to buy a computer. The iPhone might not be coming to China for a while after all. And the rumors about a subcompact notebook debuting at Mac Expo are growing louder.

avatarNot "My Bad"

There is no such phrase as "My Bad." Everyone, stop saying it now!

The phrase is actually a contraction of the rhetorical question "Am I bad?"

My bad, I'll stop saying that from now on. Irregardless, I think others will continue saying it.

avatarNo, actually, that isn't so.

No, actually, that isn't so. In the expression 'My bad,' the 'bad' is a substitution for 'mistake' or 'fault' or anything along those lines. It's not a contraction at all. It's slang, yo.

"Irregardless" is worse than "my bad" (which is actually fun to say) ... the question is, how much does slang "impact on" your vocabulary? :-)
