Top 10 Most Dangerous Places To Rock Out With Your iPod

Your iPod is your best musical friend. But, not unlike some of your college buddies, you can't take it everywhere. Below are ten places you should avoid iPod temptation and go white bud free.

10. Driving
Driving with your iPod in your ears is not a good idea. Depending on where you live, it might also be illegal. Scrolling through an enormous playlist while driving is another situation to avoid. “All Out of Love” might put you in a driving mood, but in the fast lane you need your ears-- and your wits-- about you.
9. Mowing Your Lawn in a Lightning Storm
Sad, but true: A guy mowing his lawn in a lightning storm gets backhanded by mother nature. Lightning traveled down the earbud cords, and burned him badly. Local newscasts jumped on the “killer iPods” angle, but experts say there’s nothing specific to iPods that make them more dangerous than any other conductive wires you might hang from your face. It’s been noted that the guy was listening to Metallica at the time. Insert your own Ride the Lightning joke here.
8. At Your Grandparents’ House
Last year, researchers at the University of Michigan discovered that your iPod has the potential to screw with pacemakers. The number that showed “inhibited function” (read: stopped working) near an iPod was small, but a third of the pacemakers tested experienced some kind of interference. Leave your iPod home when visiting grandma. She’s still figuring out cassettes, anyway.
7. Saving the Whales
Until Apple releases the iPod Organic Shade-Grown Fair-Trade Hemp, keep your music player stashed away next time you’re out cleaning up oil spills or protecting mole habitats or whatever. Apple has made great strides in on the environmental front, but shiny gadgets are still pretty heavy on your carbon footprint, and may contain some gnarly chemicals GreenPeace doesn’t like. Fellas, you should also know that some of those chemicals might mess with your junk. Yeah, that junk.

This will be yet another extremely popular post. I've been looking for gradients for Fireworks and have experience with your previous set. I can't thank you enough for the work you put into this. Greatly appreciated!

Whew, finally an article that almost reminded me of the silly stuff Mac Addict would do and I loved, although this article is a bit too true, I enjoyed it.
Thanks

Most of these don't require you to NOT use your iPod, but to use it at a reasonable volume where you can still be aware of external sounds. For example, don't turn up Shaft so loud you can't hear traffic and definitely don't use earbuds that block outside noise when in these situations.
As for Redmond, if I worked there I'd use this product: http://hideapod.com/

Was that guy absent the day they taught NOT mowing your lawn in the lightning storm? Period. Regardless of whether or not he was wearing an iPod...

Mixing good ideas with silly ones is a waste of everyone's time. And, doubtlessly, the people who need the good ideas aren't smart enough to separate them from the silly ones.

Just noticed that the photo of the subway that was used is from Mexico City's METRO. I´m pretty sure it was nowhere near rush hour. Still you don´t want to have those white wires hanging from your ears which tell more than a Huge neon sign that reads STEAL MY iPOD

If my sarcasm was a little to over-the-top or harsh, I too apologize. :)

No apology necessary. I guess my sarcasm wasn't sarcastic enough.
[I may have just accidentally posted this twice. Bummer.]

Au Contraire re surgery. I love using my ipod while doing surgery -- it helps drown out the sound of those pesky machines.

Love your food blog Ray, really, but this article is just dumb. Not funny not entertaining not any use at all.
But what is your opinion on truffle oil --- is it worth the price?

Is it white or black truffle oil?
Sorry you weren't amused. I'll try harder next time.

So I can't use my iPod anywhere? Well thank you! That's a helpful, insightful article. Some suggested additions:
While performing surgery
White at a concert
While making a speech
While listening to your girlfriend tell her about your day
