Top 10 Most Dangerous Places To Rock Out With Your iPod
Posted 02/28/2008 at 2:49:01pm | by Ray Aguilera

6. At Home When You Should Be Worshipping

If you’ve ever had to get up early for church, you’ve had at least one occasion of longing to stay home listening to Nick Drake and promising never to drink again. Unfortunately, you then run the risk of being smited by your deity of choice. Luckily, many churches are “GodCasting” so that you can get your fill of the divine without having to get up so early.

5. In Redmond, WA

A few years back, stories about the abundance of iPods on the Microsoft campus flew across the internets. While we all got a giggles out of that, no doubt the situation still exists. In the post-Zune age, rocking a new iPod Touch in Redmond is probably even more verboten.

4. At Doug Morris’ House

Doug Morris is the CEO of the Universal Music Group who famously claimed that iPods and their ilk were “repositories for stolen music, and they all know it.” With that rationale, Morris was able to extort a buck out of Microsoft for every Zune sold. Recently, Morris’ Universal was one of the first labels to sign up with Amazon’s DRM-free MP3 store. Perhaps the $4 a month he makes on Zune sales isn’t cutting it?

3. On Public Transit

Without my iPod, I wouldn’t be able to cope with a daily commute on public transit. My earbuds keep crazies from talking to me on crowded trains. Still, that peace of mind isn’t without risk. Reports abound of iPod thefts on public transit. No doubt the tell-tale white earbuds are the best thing to happen to subway thieves in the last decade. A headphone company rep at MacExpo recently told me “Last year, everyone wanted white cables. This year? All black.” Coincidence?

So I can't use my iPod anywhere? Well thank you! That's a helpful, insightful article. Some suggested additions:

While listening to your girlfriend tell her about your day

Love your food blog Ray, really, but this article is just dumb. Not funny not entertaining not any use at all.

But what is your opinion on truffle oil --- is it worth the price?

Is it white or black truffle oil?

Sorry you weren't amused. I'll try harder next time.

avatarSorry, Ray

Sorry if i was harsh. I apologize. I just think you right better about food things than mac things. I hope I didn't make you feel bad.

No apology necessary. Apparently my sarcasm wasn't sarcastic enough.

Au Contraire re surgery. I love using my ipod while doing surgery -- it helps drown out the sound of those pesky machines.

If my sarcasm was a little to over-the-top or harsh, I too apologize. :)

No apology necessary. I guess my sarcasm wasn't sarcastic enough.

avatarSpecially in THIS public transportation system...

Just noticed that the photo of the subway that was used is from Mexico City's METRO. I´m pretty sure it was nowhere near rush hour. Still you don´t want to have those white wires hanging from your ears which tell more than a Huge neon sign that reads STEAL MY iPOD

avatarPoorly Thought-Out Story

Mixing good ideas with silly ones is a waste of everyone's time. And, doubtlessly, the people who need the good ideas aren't smart enough to separate them from the silly ones.

Was that guy absent the day they taught NOT mowing your lawn in the lightning storm? Period. Regardless of whether or not he was wearing an iPod...

avatarVolume, volume, volume

Most of these don't require you to NOT use your iPod, but to use it at a reasonable volume where you can still be aware of external sounds. For example, don't turn up Shaft so loud you can't hear traffic and definitely don't use earbuds that block outside noise when in these situations.

As for Redmond, if I worked there I'd use this product: http://hideapod.com/
