V-Moda's Vibe Duo ($99.99) is a headphone/headset for the iPhone. It essentially takes the Vibe earphones, attaches a mic to it, and uses an iPhone-friendly connector. We liked the Vibe and we're glad see that V-Moda used it as the basis for its iPhone headset.
Have a pair of scissors handy. You'll need it to open the Vibe Duo blister pack.
The Vibe Duo earphones are the same used in the Vibe. It's available in Nero (black) and chrome only.
Along the right earphone cord, you'll find (1) a microphone and (2) a removable clip. A metal piece (3) protects the place where the cable splits from one to two.
Yes! It fits the recessed iPhone earphone jack! Hooray!
The Vibe Duo comes with a leather storage pouch, a set of clear silicon fittings (in small, medium and large), and a set of black silicon fittings.
When it came to music, the Vibe Duo sounds like the Vibe. So if you don't mind, we'll cut and paste what we said about the Vibe: Midtones sounded rich, and high-range sounds came in crisp and clean. Bass had a surprising amount of punch. It won't feel thunderous in your head, but hip-hoppers who like bass will be satisfied.
Phone calls sounded clear, but there's one major drawback. The Vibe Duo doesn't have the pinch controller that the iPhone earphones/headset has. If you get a phone call while wearing the Vibe Duo, you have to take out your iPhone to answer it. To advance a track, you have to use the iPhone touchscreen.
We'll have a complete review of the Vibe Duo in an upcoming issue of Mac|Life and on MacLife.com.
