I just wanted to add that if you wanted a second hard drive in your MB Pro, Other World Computing sells a kit to put the original (or any other) HD into the spot there the super drive is.... then there is an enclosure they sell to put the superdrive into and use a USB based drive... very cool stuff

So can you install Snow Leopard on the new drive, and then use Time Machine skipping the Carbon Copy Cloner? Also, is there a way to install Lion directly to a freshly installed drive?

I want to be sure that if I'm going to do this that I'm going to do this right. Is this the drive that is being referenced?

500GB Seagate Momentus XT 2.5" SATA 7200RPM/SSD Hybrid Drive

Please respond =/

Correct! But you can do it with any SSD you want. The drive I used was a Hybrid drive that I had on loan from Seagate.

1) Is Time Machine sufficient as far as backup goes (instead of Carbon Copy Cloner)?

2) Is this applicable to the white unibody MacBooks?

Also, any chance for a tutorial to copy the drive over? Thanks!

Time Machine only restores if you have an operating system already present on the hard drive. I'm a big fan of just waiting around and copying the drive over. There are full instructions at the link provided above on how to use Carbon Copy Cloner.

And yes! The white unibody MacBooks look the same on the inside. Same screws, same placement.
