Comment Contest: Favorite iPhone App Edition
|
The Mac|Life editors accumulate tons of rad stuff on their desks. While we would love to call "dibs" on all the stuff, we realize that it would be cooler to share the spoils of editorial war with our faithful readers.
So for this weeks Comment Contest we're giving away a Mysterious Box of Mystery filled with random gadgets and software found on the Mac|Life editor's desks. We figure the box has a street value of at least $300 worth of mysterious fun.
All you have to do is post a comment naming your favorite App Store app in this article to win the Mysterious Box of Mystery.
If you love Line Rider, tell us the comments. Are you gaga for Yelp? Tell us in the comments. That's it!
Our Mac|Life super comment choosing machine will choose a random comment and award one lucky person the mysterious box of mystery, with a retail value of $300.00. The odds of winning are determined by the number of eligible entries received. The prize is nontransferable and must be accepted as awarded.
Here are the rules:
- You can only enter once. Commenting more than once will automatically disqualify you from the contest.
- The contest is limited to legal residents of the United States (excluding residents of Puerto Rico). Void where prohibited by law. Entrants must be at least 13 years of age.
- The contest will end at 11:59p.m. PDT on October 30, 2008.
- Check out the full official rules below.
So cross your fingers and start your comments.
Mysterious Box of Mystery Comment Contest rules: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. I simply love the air sharing app. I upload files at home and get them at work and don't even need to reach around to the back of my computer to plug in a flash drive.

I never could stand trying to write out longer notes, thoughts, or random prose in Notes. I got WriteRoom, and I can't tell you how much easier it has made my life. Its awesome, and I told all of my friends about it.

My all time favorite app so far is Shazam!!! There are so many times while watching a movie that I'll hear a song that I absolutely have to have... and of course it's always the one thats missing from the soundtrack--- if there even is a soundtrack!Even if I don't use the option to purchase it right there and then from the iTunes link, it saves the tags that I've scanned for a later time. This app has definitely helped increase my iTunes playlist by finding those lost and stranded songs.BRILLIANT! :)

I recently had a game of Trism going on for 2 days. Not 48 hours straight but on and of for a couple of days. Got up to like 16 mil. That's a fun game.

Aside from the fact that it is awesomely fun, I saw a cute girl playing it on the train and it was just one of those awesome moments. It's like she had a child-like sense of wonder restored.

Despite the security glitches in the first few version, I'd always stayed true to this little gem of a freebie. I don't quite understand the RPG elements, but the gameplay is perfectly suited for the touch (or iPhone, whatever), I find myself just bypassing those parts.

As a casual gamer, I have to go with Enigmo. Loved the original on my PBG4 and the iPhone version is great. A fun time waster that actually stimulates the grey matter.

My favorite application would have to be Jaadu VNC. With Jaadu VNC I can remotely access my Windows Vista desktop and take care of my work. I can basically use Macros, print my homework, and anything else I want to from my mobile phone. What can get better than that?

iTunes remote is what I had been waiting for from the first day I set up my airport expresses to handle the home media. I actually had purchased a psp to do similar functions before the iphone ever came out. Then with the iphone I was able to retire the psp and just use the phone and patiotunes, now with remote I have full functionality, thanks apple!

I am addicted to Sudoku, yes, I know, my life is sad....
I love Enjoy Sudoku Daily because it lets me play several puzzles a day, and some of the puzzles are easy enough that I can share my addiction with my 10 year old daughter... Wait, I just noticed this from the article...."All you have to do is post a comment naming your favorite App Store app in this article to win the Mysterious Box of Mystery." Does this mean since I don't use Line Rider or Yelp I can't win? My life is over....

The absolute best app has to be phonesaber, it's funniest, nerdiest app I have ever seen. Now I can release my inner jedi with an enthusiasm that makes everyone around me act like they don't know me.

I picked up Crazy Skeleton when it was free, and it has kept my kids busy for hours over the past couple weeks. So that quiet time makes it the best app ever.

I think air sharing is the greatest app so far. Being in a car in the mood to listen to a song its not on a cd or ipod or iphone however you have a laptop....cant hook that up to the car. Open air sharing and then transfer to the phone and hook up to the car and the song you wanted to hear is now playing just like that. Or realizing you have a test you left your books in your room, however, you have the notes on the air sharing you are reading them as a refresher.

Now I do have to be clear, I am the developer for this app. And that reason alone is probably the main reason that is my favorite, because after working on it - I really love it and it really has been a blast every time that I've played it with a group of friends. So PhraseCraze gets my vote.

Sports-Tap, by Mobile1Sports:
I'm a musician in Austin, TX. So I'll be in rehearsals, or recording or at a gig even.. Trying to follow UT football.. Cowboys up and down nailbiter/headache-making football.. and of course, my hometown, Phillies, bid in the World Series and I don't have to be Homer Simpson with my AM radio on .. yelling out YES!! YES!! in the middle of a take, or de-railing everyone in a rehearsal.. etc.
Although, I have delivered a few expletives at inappropriate times.. but hey.. I'm a drummer.. my band-mates should expect that, right?

I've always used my iPods as portable hard drives, frequently using them a diagnostic boot drives filled with utilities and tools. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't let you do that anymore with the iPhone and iPod Touch. AirSharing helps fill that void.Even if I can't load a bootable OS to my iPod Touch or iPhone, I can still use them to haul around important bits of data and files. I can even read PDF, text and certain other files right on the device.Very handy. My runners-up would be: 1Password, PocketGuitar & More Cowbell!

So fat it is still Cannon Challenge. Simple to learn, difficult (for me anyway) to master, and perfectly fills that "I have five minutes to wait I think I'll play a game" moment.

My favorite app is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. As a Star Wars fan, it's a must have.
