Back in September, we asked for your favorite playlist to wake up to in the morning. Seriously, what is the deal with Jack Johnson’s “Banana Pancakes”? Y’all really love that tune. Based on our highly unscientific results, that’s the number 1 wake-up song among Mac|Life readers, with the Beatles’ “Good Morning, Good Morning” coming in a close second. But results were all across the board.
Everything from hard-rocking classics (AC/DC’s “Hell’s Bells”) to sixties bubblegum reinterpreted by Canadian schoolkids (Langley Schools Music Project, in a cover of Herman’s Hermits’ “I’m Into Something Good”), to Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” showed up on readers’ lists. Nearly everyone who included it claimed to be embarrassed by Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go,” but we have a feeling a certain Mac|Life editor isn’t the only one with a soft spot for George Michael’s mellifluous tones in the morning. Apple faves U2 made a strong showing with “Beautiful Day,” and Todd Rundgren’s “Bang the Drum All Day” gives us some clue about how a lot of you feel about getting up for work in the morning. And that brings us to the winning playlist from Rachel Silberstein in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania:
“I Don’t Like Mondays” by the Boomtown Rats
“Manic Monday” by the Bangles"
“Bang On the Drum All Day” by Todd Rundgren
“Is There Life After Breakfast?” by Ray Davies
