Vimeo just released an app to help your browse their catalogue of videos and edit your own. Although it isn’t too good at the former, its editing capabilities are very impressive for a free program, and you should definitely take a look at it if you fancy making your own short films. This tutorial will guide you through the basics.
Apple greeted the final week of March with an announcement that the 2011 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take over Moscone West in San Francisco from June 6-10, with developer tickets selling out the same day at $1,599 each. At the same time, pundits began spreading the doom and gloom that there would be no June iPhone refresh this year… but is it fact or fiction?
The Nintendo 3DS launched this week, delivering a stereoscopic 3D handheld experience without the need for special glasses. But if the thought of dropping $250 on a new portable gaming device sends you into a conniption -- especially scant weeks after the iPad 2 release -- worry not. Many of the Nintendo 3DS launch games (or suitable substitutes) are also available for iPhone and iPad. These games lack the 3D effects and offer varying features, but you'll avoid straining your eyes as well as your wallet, as all of these games sell for much less than the average $40 3DS game.
There are few events as influential in the Apple universe as the World Wide Developer Conference. Every year, the best and brightest minds in Mac and iOS software development come together at WWDC to network, sharing their talents, revealing new technologies and generally making being an Apple hardware user better than ever before. We're certain that with WWDC 2011 will be no different.
To mark the announcement of this year's WWDC, we've put together a gallery of 10 awesome moments, spanning the 28 year history of the conference. After taking this trip down memory lane, we're certain that you'll be as stoked to see what this year's WWDC will bring as we are!
Many of us spend the majority of our day sifting through, sorting, and retrieving email. But when you're moving messages between folders, clicking, dragging, and dropping becomes a repetitive annoyance. Fortunately, Mac OS X comes with the built-in ability to assign keyboard shortcuts. Read along to discover how to implement these shortcuts to bring your inbox to organizational heaven.
Today's the release of the iPad 2 in Europe, and our friends across the pond at Tap! magazine are currently waiting in line at the Bath, England Apple Store for their very own second-generation tablet. They've graciously provided us with a couple of videos from the line to give us "Yankee blokes" (see what I did there?) a look at what iPad 2 launches are like overseas (hint: they're totally the same as ours).
Individuals who are hearing impaired rely on captions in order to understand what is being said in a video. And while YouTube has come a long way with automatic captioning in videos uploaded to their site, it is not perfect, and can often lead to more confusion when watching the videos.
Enter UniversalSubtitles.org. This project, funded by Mozilla Drumbeat, allows anyone to caption a YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, HTLM5 or H.264 video. All you need is a little time and some typing skills, and all of your videos on YouTube can be nicely subtitled. In this how-to, we'll show you how to easily subtitle your videos with UniversalSubtitles.org.
This week's Best Case Scenario is essentially part deux of last week's iPad 2 round up. We got a couple more cases in over the weekend from various manufacturers and have had a chance to try them out with our new tablet device. This week, we've got cases from Incipio, Targus and a very special case from Pad & Quill.
A big lawsuit against a prominent tech company, such as Apple, tends to grab headlines for awhile, but what seems shocking to the average person (Lawsuit X means the iPhone is doomed!) is commonplace to major corporations. Apple, like most other entities that builds things and earns money, is almost constantly either being sued or fighting another company for rights to something else; it’s so common that the answer to the question "Should I get an engineering degree or a liberal arts degree?" is "Go into corporate law." Here’s just a sampling of some recent legal activity that Apple’s been involved in.
