As the summer winds down, rumor season winds up. We can't say that enough. Expect it: fast, furious, leaks, photos (legit and 'shopped), whispers, unnamed staffers, broken NDAs. It's gonna get hot out there with a new iOS and likely a new handset to go with it. But, Apple's always got a trick or two up its sleeve, so what else is cooking in the long slow summer burn?
August, the month that could really use a holiday but doesn't have any for some crazy reason, is dragging on. It's Friday again. That's a good thing, but if you have time to kill this weekend, whether you're hiding from lousy weather or wiling away the hours in an airport, we've found some great time-killers on sale in the App Store, at low, low prices of free to $1.99. Treat yourself...
Summer time is almost to an end, and you've probably got a ton of photos to sift through and upload to the web. Our suggestion is that you start with the incriminating blackmail photos first to get that over with, and then work your way up to the all-smiles group pictures. To get those photos to the web from your phone, here are four free apps that work in conjunction with your favorite social networks. Because it's Free App Friday and no one should have to pay for an app on a day like today.
Apple is now the top mobile computer manufacturer in the world, according to the latest research from DisplaySearch. In the last quarter, Apple beat rival HP for first place, having shipped a total of 13.5 million units for year-over-year growth of 136 percent.
Apple has quickly and quietly moved against knock off stores in the Queens borough of New York City. The stores, named Apple Story and Fun Zone Inc, both owned by New York resident Janie Po Chiang, have allegedly been selling counterfeit iPad, iPhone, and iPod accessories labeled as genuine Apple products.
The accessories were apparently sold in packaging carrying an Apple trademark, marked with the phrase "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China", and had markings similar to those found on authentic Apple products.
Only a few months remain before we hopefully see the release of iOS 5, but until then developers can tinker around with beta 6 for the time being, which has just been made available to developers with credentials.
You can download the new beta release from the developer site after you log in.
Spy shots are the images sent to rumor sites from secret sources and shadowy situations. They are supposedly from testing labs, or manufacturers, or even from bus riders who think they just saw an Apple employee flashing the latest goods on the commute home. Simply put, we can't get enough of them.
What makes them so compelling? Is it the hope that you will be able to tell your friends that you saw "it" first? Is it the rebel in you, that wants to believe in a world where someone is willing to defy the legendary secrecy of Cupertino? Do you just love to laugh at really bad Photoshop jobs?
Oh come on, don’t act so surprised -- someone was bound to make one of these eventually, right? We all know the iPhone 4 takes great 720p HD video, but usually it looks like we were shooting during an earthquake. Now you can shoot video like the pros with the Steadicam Smoothee.
