The webcam on your Mac is great for FaceTime, but sometimes you need to keep tabs on something besides your desk. For keeping track of pets & babies, or that annoying kid down the street who keeps knocking over your garbage cans, Dropcam HD offers streaming video and sound to the internet, or your iPhone or iPad.

When it comes to photo-centric social networks, some may shy away from the Facebook-owned Instagram if they prefer a quieter environment for sharing images. But what if you could dial out the noise and actually tame the Instagram experience instead? That’s the premise behind Gramatica for Instagram, a $0.99 app that serves up a handful of features currently overlooked by the photo sharing service. Want to quickly switch between multiple accounts? Prefer to filter out certain tags, photos, or even entire users? Gramatica has your back.

    WD TV Play Review

Western Digital has been making streaming set-top boxes for several years now. Their WD TV line has consistently packed a lot of value into their little black boxes. The latest, called WD TV Play, continues in that tradition, offering a plethora of content options at a lower price-point than some of their competitors.

    Logitech Harmony Touch Review

Your TV is probably augmented by an ever-growing collection of boxes that plug into it — and you have a remote for every one. Remembering what setting everything has to be on can be frustrating. Enter Harmony Touch. Tell it which devices you have, and assign them to Activities, such as “Watch a Blu-ray.” Tapping an activity switches the relevant gear on and selects the correct channels.

Logitech Alert Commander for Mac and 750e Outdoor Master System Review

Unlike the strictly viewing-only Logitech Alert apps for iOS and Android, the new Logitech Alert Commander for Mac offers complete control over up to six indoor or outdoor Logitech Alert cameras, including digital pan, tilt, and zoom, and digital DVR recording and playback. We tested the software with the Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master System, a weatherproof, night-vision-capable single security camera with HD video capture and motion-triggered alerts. (The indoor model is $50 less, while add-on cameras start at $229.99.)

    Steadicam Smoothee Review

First introduced in 1975, the Steadicam launched a film industry revolution by freeing camera operators to shoot moving footage without traditional dolly and tracks. Now that the iPhone 4S can shoot 1080p HD video footage rivaling that of dedicated camcorders, Tiffen’s Steadicam Smoothee is a natural choice for mobile cinematographers.

    A-Jays Four Review

When I was a kid, I discovered something amazing: detangler. You spray some on your hair, and voilà, a comb will run right through it no matter how tangled it was. To my knowledge, this product hasn’t been invented for headphone cables, and that’s a darn shame. But Jays seems to have solved the tangled cables problem anyway with the a-JAYS Four. These earbuds sport a flat rubber cable that just doesn’t tangle. I really tried, too. I balled them up and shoved them in my pocket, let them roll around in the bottom of my bag, never used a carrying case -- I even wore them in bed a few times. The cable is just wide and flat enough to resist knotting, and it simply doesn’t catch on itself when you ball it up. There’s no need to wrap or coil the headphones on anything. Just pull them out of wherever you stashed them, give ’em a shake, and they’re ready to go, untangled.

Building upon the slick, familiar interface it's tweaked to perfection with Djay, Algoriddim has expanded the definition of the multitouch DJ by bringing video mash-up creation to the masses. While certain to increase the ranks of unwatchable videos on YouTube, Vjay adds to a growing list of apps that take us down avenues of creativity we might not have otherwise turned onto.

The new Apple TV looks exactly like the previous version: same small black box. It’s got the same inputs and outputs on the back: AC power, HDMI output, micro-USB for service only, optical audio output, 10/100 Ethernet. It’s just as easy to set up: simply sign in to your Wi-Fi account and use the remote (or better yet, the free Remote app on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) to navigate around.
