We're not sure what exactly is going on in this photo (after the jump), so we're
asking you to tell us. It's one of our favorite shots captured at the
2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Show us how funny and
clever you can be by writing a caption for this image (keep it clean,
please!). As usual, the Mac|Life editors will pick our favorite and send the winner an excellent prize.
We're suckers for new Apple tech. Every time Apple releases some new
kit, we immediately start whining about how much we want it and coming
up with reasons why our existing Macs need to be replaced. But we also
have soft spots for old-school Apple gear, and we've amassed a
collection that serves no other purpose than to sit on a shelf looking
cool. Now we want to see your vintage gear.
In this month's
contest, we challenge you to describe a consumer electronics product
you think Apple should make. To enter this contest, provide the
following: your product's name; a description of its basic purpose and
features set; and a description of your product's essential
"Appleness," from both an aesthetics and functionality standpoint.
Accompanying illustrations are welcome, but not required. Submissions
will be judged by their originality, level of detail, and adherence to
Apple design precedents.
You know who's been naughty (your friends) and who's been nice (you, naturally), but you're still gonna have to get 'em presents. We've got a few great recommendations, as well as some contests, and, as always, the best links of the past week, all in one handy dandy place.
Now that you've seen our picks for Gear of the Year,
we're curious to find out what your essential gear is. Tell us what
your three favorite pieces of Mac-related hardware were in 2009. And
remember, they don't necessarily have to be Apple products. So if
you've got a favorite mouse, iPhone case, or laptop bag that the world
needs to hear about, let us know. Send the name of your three favorite
hardware products, along with a brief description of what you do with
them, and why they're so awesome. The most interesting and enthusiastic
response will score an excellent prize.
I believe the children are our future. Let's teach them well and let them lead the way. And thanks to the nearly $1200 you've donated so far this month, 1,192 students are going to have a rad educational experience, so way to go, you guys.
But October isn't over yet -- we've got one more week, and I've got a fancy, custom-designed Brenthaven messenger bag on the line for one lucky donor. Follow the jump for more.
But wait, it gets even better. Follow the jump to hear about ANOTHER match opportunity, and a how you can help us get a slice of $200,000 (dude, five freakin' zeroes!) from HP. Yes, HP. I'm serious, follow the jump.
It's week 4, and we're knocking on the door of $500. So many of our
projects (So!Very! Many!) have been fully funded. I could add some
more, but it's so tempting to just focus on knocking out the ones we
have left. If you've run into a DonorsChoose.org project that you'd
like to see added to our Giving Page, just email me at susie at maclife
dot com and I'll put it on there.
