Laptop Bag
Despite its odd name--the company’s French, OK?--the be.ez LAbesace LimeDrop 15 is anything but idiosyncratic. It’s durably constructed in lightweight nylon, with modern lines, plenty of zippered compartments, pockets, and hidey-holes for all your stuff.
Tablet
The tablet is ambidextrous; left-handed users can flip it over, plug into a second USB port, and the OLED display will reorient itself. Multimonitor users can set the tablet to recognize both monitors or switch from one to another via one of the buttons on the tablet. For those times when you just have to have a mouse, the Intuos4 ships with a matching one, but we only needed to use it a few times.
DSLR Camera
For those with big ambitions--and a budget to match--it’s hard to go wrong with the 5D. It offers professional features and image quality in a prosumer body, and as an added bonus, you get incredible, if sometimes tricky-to-use 1080p video capability.
Video Game
Multiwinia’s short matches are packed with strategy fun, with simple controls, endless replayability (especially for $19!), and tons of multiplayer potential. The sound effects bored us, but the Tron-ish vector graphics and glowing, geometric shapes are the perfect backdrop for these space-age skirmishes. We’ll never look at innocent stick figures the same way again.
iCal Utility
If you already get weather info from a Dashboard widget, the Weather app on your iPhone, or by manually visiting your weather website of choice, WeatherCal can save you a few minutes by serving that info to your trusty calendar. It’s great for frequent travelers too.
Photo Software
Except for the most casual users, FlickrExport for iPhoto is an essential Flickr tool, with many more options than iPhoto ’09’s new native Flickr integration. Here’s hoping Connected Flow will turn its attention to iPhoto ’09’s limited Facebook integration next.
Printer
The Stylus Photo R2880 may not have the large-capacity cartridges and no-swap blacks that Epson aficionados were hoping for, but if you’re ready for a new printer that can deliver breathtakingly beautiful images at a reasonable cost, this is the one.
Album Art Software
The Get Album Artwork feature in iTunes only searches the iTunes Store library. CoverScout searches Amazon and Google, which means you’ll be able to find artwork for just about any song. CoverScout embeds the artwork into the ID3 tag of the music file, whereas iTunes keeps artwork in a separate database - and separate from the song file itself.
Photo Software
The Eye-Fi Explore is so much more than an SD card. With automatic geotagging and wireless photo-site uploads, anyone who takes tons of photos in a lot of different places can benefit from the ease of use and hands-off auto-uploading made possible by the Eye-Fi Explore.
Bar Code Scanner
Whether you’re a generous lender, you want to brag about your collection online, or you just really like beeping lasers, the IntelliScanner mini is as fun to use as it is useful.
