10gb of transfer data a month
Wtf. Who here has as little as 10gb transfer data a month for their internet service? I do, and it sucks. You can transfer 10gb in the blink of a eye. I mean, I'm practically transfering like quarter of that just submitting this post.

I don't think that DD would approve of your porn habit. Maybe if it's all 1080p in H.264 then it might be more excusable.

Don't pay for metered net access?

It is my sincerest hope that you do not think that you're transferring 2.5GB of data posting on these boards. Sarcasm is hard to detect on the Intarweb.

I think IE is why we've been having all of these mysql errors-too many users.

How do you do over ten gig a month without either a) pirating a lot or b) a major porn habit?

Yup. I think the solution you're looking for is a perma-ban. Ask a mod to help you.

It actually is possible. At Berkeley I was limited to 5 gb / week and I could come very close to going over that if I had to reinstall my computer, between all the updates for windows, downloading games (that I DO have legal copies of) and patching them.
Add a couple downloads on movielink and you're basically there.

We're mac users, we don't have to reinstall all the time.

Yeah I figured that would probably be the response I'd get.
You don't get movielink either.
Just pointing out it is possible.

Re: 10gb of transfer data a month
I just signed up with a newsgroup server and found I couldn't post.
Looked at their help page, and it turns out that they have a spam mechanism in place - before you can post, you have to have downloaded 2 GB worth of stuff and then you are able to agree to a "I won't spam" policy and post.
I use newsgroups lightly - just geeky stuff, no pron, warez, etc.
Getting to 2GB would take me a VERY LONG TIME (my 5GB/mo transfer limit is basically for me unlimited use).
Fortunately, an e-mail to them straightened that out and I can post.
The fact that I'm the maintainer of pan (a newsgroup reader) for Fedora Extras may have helped straighten that out

Where the hell do you live with metered Broadband? Seriously, I have never even seen it offered.

I think some places in Europe have it - and many businesses do to, but for business, not would be metered that small - and they usually just pay per GB, and are not limited to how many.
I know in some mail lists, people non US people complain when you include the entire post in your reply (or use html mail etc.) because they pay for every bit.

Re: 10gb of transfer data a month
I have a 8GB limit, and I nearly go over every month, and I don't download porn or warez. On a regular day of no large downloads, I download 200-300 MB (that's not just me though, it's my dad, me, and my two brothers). I can only download files that are around 500MB maybe once or twice a month, max.
